CEREC - Same Day Crowns
Same-day crowns are used to restore decayed, broken or damaged teeth in one visit, with no need for a follow-up appointment.
What is CEREC?
Dental technology has come a long way since the early days of silver (amalgam) and alloy crowns. Today, it’s possible to walk into the dental surgery, have ‘same-day crowns’ fitted, and walk out.
Same-day crowns are now possible with CEREC CAD/CAM (Computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing) technology.
What to expect during a CEREC (Same Day Crowns) Appointment?
Your dentist at Newcastle family Dental will first examine and prepare the tooth by administering an anaesthetic and removing decay or weakened tooth tissue. A digital impression is then taken of the tooth which takes about one to two minutes.
Once the impression is taken, the CEREC software converts the impression into a three-dimensional virtual model, which is displayed for the dentist and yourself across the computer screen. The model is then created within the same visit by milling a ceramic block into the exact shade and mould of your tooth. Within under an hour, the restoration is polished, fitted and bonded to the tooth by the dentist.
